Canadian Quality and Patient Safety Framework for Health Services: Communications Toolkit

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) and Health Standards Organization (HSO), with the dedicated support of hundreds of stakeholders across Canada, recognized the need for a greater commitment to quality and safety improvement. Global Vaccine Safety Summit

The Global Vaccine Safety Summit is a 2-day event, from 2 to 3 December 2019, organized by the World Health Organization and held at the WHO's headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

In the year that marks the 20th anniversary of the WHO’s Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS), the Global Vaccine Safety Summit will be an opportunity to take stock of GACVS accomplishments and look towards priorities for the next decade.

At the Summit, WHO will present the Global Vaccine Safety Blueprint 2.0 strategy 2021-2030 to key stakeholders and collect their input for the final version, due for publication in the new year

Asia-Pacific Patients Congress: Harmonisation for Patient-Centred Universal Health Coverage in Asia

IAPO’s Asia-Pacific Patients Congress is the 2019 regional event which will bring together the patient movement in the Asia-Pacific region. The Congress aims to bring together around 150 patient advocates from the region to share their insights, perspectives, experiences and best practices on the pressing healthcare issues in the region.

It is also an opportunity for IAPO to promote its mission to help build patient-centered healthcare across the region and to encourage the formation of national alliances of patient groups.

The Congress is organized by IAPO and co-delivered by its regional members the Psoriasis Association of Taiwan (PAT) and the Taiwan Alliance of Patient Organizations (TAPO).

Health professional perspectives of patient safety issues in intensive care units in Saudi Arabia

Despite adverse errors leading to poor patient outcomes, there is a paucity of literature, including staff perceptions, on adverse errors in Saudi Arabian intensive care units. So the aim of this study was to examine attitudes to patient safety in two intensive care units from the perspective of health care professionals in Saudi Arabia with a descriptive cross-sectional design was used.

Developing patient safety system using WHO tool in hospitals in Oman

Oman is progressively implementing the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Iniciative (PSFHI), a tool formulated by the World Health Organization (WHO) to achieve optimal patient safety in hospitals. This paper  describes its implementation in selected government and private hospitals in Oman and analyses the performance of four hospitals whose implementations of PSFHI were assessed by WHO.

This guideline offers best practice advice on the care of all people who are using medicines and also those who are receiving suboptimal benefit from medicines, from the point of view of NICE based of the best available evidence.

Medicines prevent, treat or manage many illnesses or conditions and are the most common intervention in healthcare. However, it has been estimated that between 30% and 50% of medicines prescribed for long?term conditions are not taken as intended (World Health Organization 2003). This issue is worsened by the growing number of people with long term conditions (long?term condition is defined as 'a condition that cannot, at present, be cured but is controlled by medication and/or other treatment/therapies'). Partnering with patients to improve care: essential skills and strategies.

This link provides the contents from the conference organized by the McGill University Health Centre’s Institute for Strategic Analysis and Innovation (MUHC-ISAI), regarding patient centered health care systems.

The opening conference was performed by Angela Coulter, who reviewed the patient engagement history in health care systems and gave a broad overview on how patients could be involved in the entire functioning of the system.

In the website there can also be found the materials corresponding to the following six sessions:

  • Patient engagement leadership.
  • Patient partnership: recruitment, training, governance and evaluation.
  • How does the patient experience drive improvement?
  • Building capacity to lead quality improvement with patient partners.
  • Engaging patients to improve the clinical encounter.
  • Patient engagement in patient safety.

With these materials, the MUHC-ISAI shares an important amount of information and resources in order to improve the role of patients in current health systems.
