Health care on equal terms? Assessing horizontal equity in health care use in Northern Sweden

The Swedish health care system has successively moved toward increased market-orientation, which has raised concerns as to whether Sweden still offers health on equal terms. To explore this issue, this study aimed to assess if the principleas of horizontal equity (equal access for equal need regardless of socio-economic factors) are met in Nrothern sweden 2006-14; and to explore the contribution of different factors to the inequalities in access along the same period.

Disparity reduction strategy in Israel’s Clalit Health Services

Creation of a composite disparity score allowed health disparities in Clalit Health Services to be identified, assessed and then targeted for intervention; top-down leadership from senior management within Clalit Health Services was essential for creating the conditions needed for change; locally-designed initiatives provided tailored solutions for achieving targets set by senior management; capitalizing on preexisting strengths and resources minimized the need for costly investments; data-driven performance measures were the backbone of the initiative and provided evidence of the need for intervention, helped incentivize performance improvements and allowed monitoring and evaluation of progress; regular feedback and monitoring fostered a culture of continuous learning and evidence-based performance improvement.

Diversity Conceptual Model for aged care: Person-centred and difference-oriented and connective with a focus on benefit, disadvantage and equity

AIM:

This project aimed to develop a Diversity Conceptual Model to support the aged care sector to identify diversity characteristics and associated benefits and disadvantages in order to consider greater equity in policy and practice.

METHODS:

A multi-method approach was used to develop the Diversity Conceptual Model using a literature review, organisation-wide consultation using a questionnaire, focus groups and interviews with key stakeholders.

RESULTS:

A Diversity Conceptual Model was developed as a visual 'tool', made up of numerous components, with a focus on diversity characteristics that may be creating benefits and disadvantages for a consumer to participate in their health care. Continuous quality improvements and equity are presented as essential overarching components of the Model.

CONCLUSION:
