Health workforce planning under conditions of uncertainty: identifying supportive integrated care policies using scenario analysis

Integrated care presents health workforce planners with significant uncertainty. This results from:

  • (1) these workforces are likely in the future to be different from the present.
  • (2) integrated care's variable definitions.
  • (3) workforce policy and planning is not familiar with addressing such challenges.

One means to deal with uncertainty is scenario analysis. In this study shows some aspects of integration-supportive workforce governance and planning policies that were derived from the application of scenario analysis.Through a mixed methods design that applies content analysis, scenario construction and the policy Delphi method, it's analized a set of New Zealand's older persons health sector workforce scenarios. Developed from data gathered from workforce documents and studies, the scenarios were evaluated by a suitably qualified panel, and derived policy statements were assessed for desirability and feasibility.

Barriers and Facilitators to Workforce Changes in Integrated Care

Health systems are faced with an ageing population and an increase in chronic conditions. These challenges require more appropriate approaches than the current largely single-disease and acute-care focussed health care systems. Integrated care is seen as one of the most promising of these approaches by targeting the health system, patient-provider relationships, care process design, communication infrastructures, community resources, and how care is delivered by health professionals. The aim of the study is to investigate the barriers and facilitators to the implementation of workforce changes implemented as part of integrated chronic care interventions.

International healthcare worker migration in Asia Pacific: International policy responses

The growth of the international migration of health workers in recent decades has taken place in the context of the transnationalisation of healthcare provision as well as of governance and policy responses. This paper examines international policy responses to cross-border health worker migration in the Asia Pacific region. These include multilateral (global and regional) and bilateral policy agreements, policy dialogue, "circular" and key themes of health workforce planning and management.

Integrating Community Health Workers Into Medical Homes

Though evidence supports the value of community health workers (CHWs) in chronic disease self-management support, and authorities have called for expanding their roles within patient-centered medical homes (PCMSs), few PCMHs in Minnesota have incorporated these health workers into their care teams. They undertook a qualitative study to (1) identify facilitators and barriers to utilizing a CHW model among PCMHs in Minnesota, and (2) define roles played by this workforce within the PCMH team

Managing In- and Out-Migration of Health Workforce in Selected Countries in South East Asia Region

There is an increasing trend of international migration of health professionals from low -and middle- income countries to high-income countries as well as across middle- income countries. The WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel was created better address health workforce development and the ethical coduct of international recruitment. This study assessed policies and practices in 4 countries in South East Asia on managing the in -and out- migration of doctors and nurses to see whether the managementet has been in line with the WHO Global Code and has fostered health workforce development in the region; and draws lessons from these countries.

The Joint Action on Health Workforce Planning and Forecasting: Results of a European programme to improve health workforce policie

Health workforce (HWF) planning and forecasting is faced with a number of challenges, most notably a lack of consistent terminology, a lack of data, limited model, demand based, and future-based planning and limited inter-country collaboration. The Joint Action on Health Workforce Planning and Forecsting (JAHWF, 2013-2016) aimed to move foward on the HWF planning process and support countries in tackling the key challenges facing the HWF and HWF planning. This paper synthesizes and discusses the results of the JAHWF. Ti is shown that the JAHWFhas provided importatn setps towards improved HWF planning and forecasting across Europe.

Professional groups driving change toward patient-centred care: interprofessional working in stroke rehabilitation in Denmark

Patient-centred care based on needs has been gaining momentum in health policy and the workforce. This creates new demand for interprofessional teams and redefining roles and tasks of professionals, yet little is known on how to improve new health policies more effectively. Their aim was to analyse the role and capacity of healht professions in driving organisational change in interprofessional working and patient-centred care.
