The World Health Organization (WHO) has advocated for the implementation of people-centred and integrated health services. Although there is growing evidence of integration’s benefits for sexual and reproductive health, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and rights, health services face tremendous resource constraints when it comes to integrating these services.

Family-centred interventions for Indigenous early childhood well-being by primary healthcare services

Primary healthcare, particularly Indigenous-led services, are well placed to deliver services that reflect the needs of Indigenous children and their families. Important characteristics identified by families for primary health care include services that support families, accommodate sociocultural needs, recognise extended family child-rearing practices, and Indigenous ways of knowing and doing business. Indigenous family-centred care interventions have been developed and implemented within primary healthcare services to plan, implement, and support the care of children, immediate and extended family and the home environment. The delivery of family?centred interventions can be through environmental, communication, educational, counselling, and family support approaches.

What improves access to primary healthcare services in rural communities? A systematic review

To compile key strategies from the international experiences to improve access to primary healthcare (PHC) services in rural communities. Different innovative approaches have been practiced in different parts of the world to improve access to essential healthcare services in rural communities. Systematically collecting and combining best experiences all over the world is important to suggest effective strategies to improve access to healthcare in developing countries. Accordingly, this systematic review of literature was undertaken to identify key approaches from international experiences to enhance access to PHC services in rural communities.

Nursing students' experiences and perceptions of barriers to the implementation of person-centred care in clinical settings: A qualitative study

This study explored the barriers that nurses face while delivering person-centred care,  through  the  nursing  students'  experiences  during  clinical  prac-tice. This study showed that the barriers to implement person-centred care in clinical settings were busyness, educational challenges, lack of awareness, lack of relationship building and lack of policy approaches. 

From People-Centred to People-Driven Care: Can Integrated Care Achieve its Promise without it?

In this editorial, we argue that people-centred care has often remained too passive, condemns patients and carers to subservient roles, and as a result preserves a power imbalance that favours systems and professionals over people and communities. For integrated care to reach its full potential, we instead advocate for a deliberate shift towards ‘people-driven’ care where people have more agency in participating in their health and greater power in decision-making.

Effectiveness of a community-integrated intermediary care (CIIC) service model to enhance family-based long-term care for Thai older adults in Chiang Mai, Thailand: a cluster-randomized controlled trial TCTR20190412004

Populations around the world are ageing faster, with the majority living in low- and middle-income countries where health and social care are yet to be universal and inclusive for the ageing population. This community-integrated intermediary care (CIIC) model is a novel prevention-based, long-term care model enhancing the family-based care system traditionally practised in Thailand and neighbouring Asian countries, and many low-and middle-income countries globally. This study assessed the effectiveness of the CIIC model in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Examining the knowledge work of person-centred care: Towards epistemic reciprocity

It is increasingly recognised that when healthcare staff fails to give adequate credence to patients' illness-related knowledge work, this epistemic injustice undermines person-centred care. Therefore, we set out to examine the experiences of people with long-term conditions with knowledge work in healthcare settings to identify changes needed to strengthen person-centred primary care.

Establishing more substantial patient involvement in the health care has become fundamental to Western health care services. Person-centred care (PCC) has been developed as a way of working that involve the patients and family members. However, the implementation of PCC in clinical practice has proven to be challenging. The aim of this study was to explore the congruence of managers’ perceptions and understanding of various aspects of PCC across three organisational levels in one health care region in Sweden in terms of coupling, decoupling and recoupling.
